WRETCHES
Beau
Born December 22, 2003
A former child actor who never fully transitioned to adult roles.
Grapples with neurodivergence, chronic clumsiness, and is developing chronic pain
Hides his bisexuality and a sense of unease regarding traditional male behavioural expectations, despite striving for a playboy persona
Struggles with the shadow of past fame and the desire to reclaim it while being taken seriously.
Isolated and lonely, Beau dissociates through cannabis and moving meditation, and has established an accidental connection to the Liminality.
Ill at ease in the world
While Beau does not experience strong gender dysphoria, he grapples with a sense of unease about conforming to traditional male ways of presenting. He is embarrassed by his bisexuality. He often finds himself at odds with the attractive cis-male actor persona he presents to the world, leading to an internal struggle to align his external image with his true identity.
Beau’s journey takes place against a backdrop of neurodivergence, a condition that he’s never been officially diagnosed with but strongly suspects. He often questions whether he has conditions like ADHD or may be on the Autism Spectrum. He’s been told he is probably…something…and has explored various resources to understand his unique way of experiencing the world. His neurodivergent tendencies manifest in his approach to life and work, making it challenging for him to fit into conventional molds and meet expectations consistently.
Beau experiences chronic pain, which has deepened his sense of being different from the norm. Moving meditation with Happy Rhodes’ music serves as both a means of escape and a source of solace, allowing him to navigate the enigmatic aspects of his existence and explore the universe in his “imagination”.
Beau as Chippy in Space Race 5001
Beau never knew his father, and his mother struggled with addiction, eventually surrendering him to the state. He has had no contact with her since he was five years old.
BEAU’s foster family started his career with child acting, forcing him on auditions and withholding food and other comforts if he failed to get the parts. The financial arrangements are still being fought in the courts 10 years after he moved out on his own.
Beau’s adult life in the entertainment industry has been marked by a string of bit parts, auditions, and voice-over work for commercials. He navigates the outskirts of acting, often landing gigs in obscure and third-rate productions. While his childhood fame may have opened doors for him, the transition to adulthood has been a struggle, leaving him with a patchwork of roles in his portfolio.
Never allowed to be a child, Beau has never learned to grow up.
Beau’s early success as Chippy in Space Race created tremendous pressure from his foster family to continue acting and earning
Fired from Urchins for gaining weight, Beau developed disordered eating and still fights with his fear of being fat or unattractive
Riding Range, a period piece set in early Minnesota, was cancelled after a single season
During the reboot of Space Race, Beau struggled with stardom and access to drugs and alcohol, resulting in the producers killing off his character, Chip
A pivot to the stage brought some success as Beau’s singing and dancing skills blossomed off-off-Broadway and in a touring company of Rent, but his chronic unreliability and lack of self-discipline led to his dismissal.
Beau’s on-screen mom from Space Race was played by legendary actress Serena Hartwell, who has maintained her relationship with Beau through the years, providing support in various ways from financial to emotional, and trying to help him from afar.
Lost and Seeking
Beau’s character reflects his unique position on the outskirts of acting and his quest for self-discovery, all while grappling with neurodivergence and an internal struggle regarding traditional gender roles. He is the most vulnerable of the contestants and the most likely to succumb.
Wretches
Even wretches can’t settle for just staying wretched – they need to step up and in to keep their protectors interested. Beau has proven a serious disappointment. He is nominated by Mother Maverick for one last chance at redemption through the Slow-Mo.
